UNICAL, Senior Staff
Club last week, held a
rousing reception for
the former Cross River
State Commissioner for
Education, Prof. Offiong
E. Offiong.
Prof. Offiong, a life
member of the club served
as commissioner for eight
years under Governor
Liyel Imoke.
Before his appointment
as commissioner,
Prof. Offiong served
as chairman of the
university branch of the
Academic Staff Union of
Universities, ASUU, and
was later elected National
vice chairman of the
The president of the
staff club, Dr. Ndubuisi
Osuagwu described the
former commissioner as
a worthy ambassador
who contributed the
educational development
of the state.
Dr. Osuagwu noted that
as commissioner, Prof.
Offiong still identified with
the club and participated
in its activities.
He disclosed that
when Prof. Offiong was
appointed commissioner
“he did not leave quietly
and he has come back the
way he left.”
“We (club members) had
to receive him elaborately
because he was an active
member who participated
in virtually every activity
the club while serving the
Dr. Osuagwu noted that
the former commissioner
deserved accolades
from his colleagues for
his selfless service he
rendered to the people
