As part of its bid to erad measles epidemic in the state, the UNICEF in collaboration with National Primary Healthcare Development Agency and Zamfara State government have set to embark upon measles vaccination immunistion exercise across Zamfara State slated to hold between November 21 and 25.
his was made known by the UNICEF measles Consultant in Zamfara State Dr. Usman Nasir NaKaka at a one-day sensitisation workshop on the role of the media in advocacy, communications and social mobilisation towards irradiation of measles pandemic spreading among communities in Zamfara State held at Zamfara Trade Centre Gusau Yesterday.
Dr. NaKaka said, the terms of reference and Principles of the immunisation exercise includes free immunisation, to ensure the exercise reached every community at their nearest points, children under 5-9 years are to be vaccinated as well as the medicine is safe.
He said, UNICEF in collaboration with local government primary health care centres and state ministry of health will begin an advocacy, communications and social mobilisation, ACSM, in all the 14 local government councils in the state on the danger of measles particularly as it affect mainly children.
He called on media practitioners in the state to help the UNICEF to achieve the goals of the programme.
