As the entire world celebrate the Global Hand washing Day, people of Osun State have been enjoined to cultivate the habit of washing hands with soap as a preventive measure in contacting dangerous and deadly diseases. The state UNICEF WASH Consultant, Mr. Olowole Modekai made this known at Saint Michael Elementary School, Oluwada, Gbongan in Ayedaade Local Government Area of Osun State while sensitizing both the teachers, students, parents and some community leaders on the importance of hand washing on Friday. This year’s celebration witnessed a sensitisation for teachers, parents and students of schools in Ayedaade local government Area of the state on the importance of global hand washing day. Modekai, who informed that this year’s Hand Washing day celebration theme will be, “Make Hand washing a Habit” noted that, Osun State government through EU-UNICEF assistance has constructed 120 tree compartments with another 120 ongoing in schools & PHCs in the state. He added that, about 216 water facilities have been completed while 293 were ongoing presently to support the Community Household Hand Washing facilities as well as water provision to promote supervised group hand washing in Schools supported with Tippy Tap technology. Speaking with Nigerian Pilot at the event, the Wash Consultant in Ayedaade local government Area of the state, Mrs. Abidemi Omopariola, Head of Water and Sanitation in Ayedaade local government, Mr. Olaoye Ayobami, Director of Hygiene in the RUWESA, Mr. Segun Moyinoluwa stated that, people should collaborate with government in spreading the habit of washing hands in order to avert epidemic in the state.
