United Nations Industrial Development Organisation, UNIDO has further foster cooperation on legal matters with the United Nations, UN with hosting of the annual meeting of legal advisers of the United Nations system which ended in Vienna, weekend.
The two-day event, according to a statement by UNIDO, brought together the legal advisers of over 20 specialized agencies and related organizations, and was chaired by Miguel de Serpa Soares, Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs and the Legal Counsel of the United Nations.
It stated that the meeting’s main objective was to foster cooperation on legal matters within the United Nations system.
This year’s agenda, according to the statement included topics such as privileges and immunities; agreements with donors; and the protection of intellectual property by international organisations.
Director General of UNIDO, Li Yong, while welcoming the legal advisers to Vienna, reflected on the fact that the year 2015 marks several important anniversaries: the 70th anniversary of the United Nations; the 50th anniversary of the decision of the General Assembly to establish UNIDO as an autonomous organization with the United Nations; and the 30th anniversary of the conversion of UNIDO to a specialized agency.
He also underlined that the meeting contributed to strengthening the coordination and support within the United Nations system which is so necessary to further organizational mandates.
