A TRADITIONAL ruler was yesterday assassinated by unknown gunmen in Vingir, Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State. Confirming the incident, the spokesman of Beue State Police Command, ASP Moses Yamu said the police received report at about 8:30pm that the Tyoor Mbayongo, Chief Awuhe Alev was shot dead by some unknown men at his residence. Yamu said that a large number of police men have been deployed to the area while investigation has already commenced with a view to arresting the perpetrators. It would be recalled that Katsina-Ala has witnessed several robbery incidents after the state government declared the notorious criminal, Terwase Akwaza, alias Gana wanted. The development has shocked several Benue residents, particularly as the statement government claimed it has retrieved arms from the possession of those who are not supposed to use them through its amnesty programme.
