Member of vigilante had reportedly thwarted an attempted suicide bombing at Rumirgo market in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
Acting director, army public relations, Colonel Sani Usman, said the suspected bomber was accosted by the security conscious vigilante as the man headed for the site of the planned attack.
This is even as another attack was averted in Maiduguri where six suspected bombers carrying explosives were detained by the civilian JTF.
One of the men confessed they had planned to attack the Monday market, which had been previously targeted several times.
The army spokesman said, “in the process of interrogation, the suspected terrorist blew himself off and died on the spot. The vigilante member sustained injuries and has been rushed to hospital for medical treatment by troops.
“The situation is under control as people go about their normal businesses. The Nigerian troops have been placed on maximum alert to forestall further attack.”
Nigerian Pilot Sunday recalls that last week, a youth vigilance group in Lahou village of Borno State killed 17 members of Boko Haram.
