In order to empower more youths in the state, Kogi State government has distributed tricycles to the youths in the state.
While distributing the tricycles popularly called Keke NAPEP in Lokoja on Wednesday, Governor Idris Wada stated that his administration would strive through sustainable poverty alleviation programme to ensure that the state youth unemployment profile is drastically reduced.
The governor, who was represented at the presentation ceremony by his deputy, Yomi Awoniyi, said the gesture to empower youths with the tricycles was to complement other government activities on youth and women empowerment that had helped in the reduction of poverty in the society.
He said aside other programmes on capacity building by his administration geared towards assisting youths and women to development and to become self reliant, he noted that his government would continue to give youth and women empowerment front line attention to help create jobs.
The governor appealed to the beneficiaries of the tricycles to make good use of it for positive empowerment channels, expanding their businesses as well as engaging them positively.
Governor Wada assured of a sustained efforts in youths employment policy that is top on his government’s transformation agenda, commending youths of the state for their peaceful disposition before, during and after last week’s general elections.
Earlier in his remarks, Engr Sunday Abutu, special adviser on poverty reduction, said the tricycles were to be distributed to youths across communities in the state, commending the efforts of the present administration to make the youths gainfully engaged.
Also, one Isah Olorunfemi who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked the state government for the gesture to empower them, promising to use the tricycles for the purposes they werer meant for.
