A pro Buhari Ex-militant Leader, Israel Akpodoro, has raised the alarm over the turn of events as it concerns security in Niger Delta region saying his life is in danger.

Akpodoro who anchored the military across the creeks of the region on manhunt for criminal elements during the reign of sabotage occasioned by series of bombings of oil and gas facilities by militant groups particularly the Niger Delta Avengers, NDA, made this known in a telephone interview with our correspondent saying the irony of the fight against the Avengers was that the “hunter is now the hunted.”

According to the President Muhammadu Buhari’s die-hard ex-militant leader; “I led the security agents across the nooks and cranies of the flash points in the region as a nationalist and in solidarity with the Nigerian state to fish out the criminal elements from the creeks thereby stemming the activities of the recalcitrant militants who were being funded by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to avenge the loss of the umbrella party at the centre.

“Incidentally, the same questionable elements who were the targets of the military operations who deemed my support for the security agency in bad taste have now turned round to misinform the military and today I am being sought after by same people I worked for in national interest.” The Urhobo born ex-militant leader stated.

Akpodoro further averred that although he has no regret working with the security agencies to stem the tide of bombings by the militant groups but, that the manner the army has decided to reward his solidarity leaves much to be desired as he called on President Buhari to come to his aid before his ‘enemies’ use the army to snuff life out of him.

“Shockingly, a certain Major Usman of the Military Intelligence of the Operation Delta Safe, called, inviting me to Yenagoa. Efforts to know the reason failed as he told me he was obeying the order from above. After sometimes he called me again instructing to report in Abuja to Colonel Cleopas in an attempt to arrest me.

“Invitations were sequel to a campaign of vicious calumny against me by members of the Avengers and their sponsors who were embittered by my opposition to their criminal intents and purposes particularly the blowing up of oil facilities in the region. On their flesh I’ve being a torn and I remain same to every criminal in that region. I refused to be cowed by invitations because I remain steadfast in my quest for peace and development of my region.” A visibly angry Akpodoro stated.

More worrisome according to Akpodoro who is also the National President of National Coalition of Niger Delta Ex-Agitators, NCNDE-A, is the fact that the Military Chiefs who were privy to “all I did against the militants” and expressed happiness still allowed themselves to cajoled be by the “fifth columnists” into hounding me. Is it an offense to be honest? Is it wrong to have stood on the side of the government? I am disappointed with the current developments.”

He called on the youth of the region to be steadfast in their support for the current administration adding that no amount of intimidation should lure them into crimes stating that: “My activities against the renewed militancy especially the Tompolo led Avengers is an open book for the Nigerian public, authorities, even the criminals…to read and I remain happy to have achieved success.” He stated.
