“Like Minds” Senators have denied working against the interest of President Muhammadu Buhari saying those who accused the group of working against Buhari are the real enemy of Mr. President.
The senators made the denial at a news conference addressed by the Chairman, Senate ad-hoc committee on Media and Publicity, Senator Dino Melaye (APC Kogi West).
Melaye noted with concern that the report which tagged the affected senators as Anti-Buhari, was wicked, satanic and unacceptable because all of them actually worked for Buhari’s victory at the poll and had determined to ensure the success of his administration.
He also alleged that the sponsors of the publication were actually the real enemies of the President because their action was capable of causing disunity between the South and the North.
He insisted that the publication was a great disservice to the country even as he maintained that the members and leadership of the 8th Senate were committed to moving the nation forward by ensuring the success of Buhari’s programmes and policies.
He said: “There was a presentation on the floor by Ali Ndume and he raised complain about a publication on today’s nation newspaper. He said some senators have been labelled by the report which revealed that the 81 senators who appended their signatures to Saraki’s endorsement are enemies of Buhari.
“I want to say that it is wicked, satanic and unacceptable for anybody to infer or ascertain to the fact that those who endorse the leadership of Senate are enemies of the President.
“I want to state clearly that the report and those insinuating that 22 northern senators who signed that report are the ones that are actually working against the president are mischief makers because there is nothing Buhari has brought to the senate that has not received expeditious response.
“For us in the senate, we pray he succeeds and we will all partner with him for that purpose. Those trying to pitch the majority of the senate against Buhari are the ones who do not like him”.
One of the senators, Binta Garba Marshi (APC Adamawa North) wondered why somebody like her could be mischievously linked to groups that would be against Buhari when her people were looking forward to Buhari to root out insurgency in the North East.
She said, “My father, who was the driver of General Muhammadu Buhari when he was in the military, will never forgive me if I work against the President. It is not possible for me to work against him”
Also Senator Mohammed Shittu, (APC Jigawa North East) who recited some Quranic verses in his response, alleged that the people, who invited senators to the International Conference Centre on the day of inauguration, were the real enemies of Buhari.
He also rained curses on the writers and sponsors of the publication describing them as enemies of Nigeria.
The Senate had earlier asked its committee on Ethics and privileges, to investigate the publication, the publisher, and the writer with a view to ascertaining the intention.
The Senate President while ruling on the point of order raised on the issue by the Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, asked the committee to submit its report within one week.
However, the claim by Ndume that the publisher of the Nation newspapers was behind the publication angered Senator Oluremi Tinubu (APC Lagos Central) who openly protested the offending statement.
