One of the All Progressives Congress, APC, members-elect from Benue state, Honourable Mark Tersee Gbilah has hinted that all the new members-elect into the 8th House of Representatives are planning to organise debate for the six aspirants for the position of the Speaker.
Gbilah disclosed this yesterday while denouncing that the North-Central caucus had not endorsed any candidate for the position contrary to some newspaper publications.
He explained that the essence of the debate will be to ascertain which of the candidate has a concrete agenda to lead the House in the right direction.
“The new members are planning to organise a debate for the aspirants. They will speak to us. At this point, we are not endorsing anybody.
“We want them to tell us their agenda. We are not meeting to choose; we are meeting to listen and decide who will lead the House. Our party (APC) is in touch with the Nigerian People,” he stated.
On the purported endorsement, he said they are waiting for the party to make a pronouncement before endorsing anybody.
The lawmaker maintained that any of the candidate who will represent the interest of all the lawmakers would definitely emerge as Speaker.
According to him, “We want to categorically state that we have not endorsed any candidate. There is a process in place and we are waiting for the outcome.
“The publication indicated that it was on behalf of the North-Central caucus. It was quite a surprise when we saw our names in the press.’’
