United States President, Barack Obama, through the Vice President, Joe Biden has assured President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, of his readiness to work with him.
In a phone call to Buhari on Wednesday, Biden congratulated Buhari for winning the March 28 presidential election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
In a statement released by the White House, which Nigerian Pilot accessed yesterday in Abuja, Biden told Buhari that the Obama administration would expand collaboration with Nigeria on various issues, including economic and security matters.
Biden expressed delight that Buhari displayed leadership style which helped in ensuring that the just-concluded elections were conducted peacefully and appealed to him to “foster a smooth, inclusive, and peaceful transition with President Goodluck Jonathan.”
The statement reads in part: “The Vice President expressed the United States’ support for Nigeria’s efforts to counter Boko Haram, recover hostages held by the group, and protect civilian populations. The Vice President also expressed the willingness of the United States to partner more closely with Nigeria to strengthen its economy.”
