Police in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, said its officers and men are currently trying to track down kidnappers of a former Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Victor Olabintan.
Olabintan, an All Progressives Congress, APC, aspirant in this year’s governorship election, was reportedly abducted in Kwali Area Council on his way from Akure, the Ondo State capital.
When contacted, the FCT police spokesman, ASP Angujuri Manzah, confirmed the incident, but declined to give detailed information to Nigerian Pilot, as he simply said investigation is ongoing and that operatives of the command are trailing the kidnappers.
Secretary, Olabintan Campaign Organisation, Gboyega Ajayi, confirmed that the former speaker was kidnapped at Kwali after he was flagged down at a military checkpoint by fake soldiers who turned out to be kidnappers.
According to information, the incident occurred barely 48 hours after Olabintan indicated interest to contest for the APC governorship ticket in Ondo State.
As at the time of filing this report, no contact has been established between the kidnappers and Olabintan’s relations or associates.
