Revelation yesterday emerged on the real reason Kaduna State governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai scrapped the state Ministry of Information.
It would be recalled that El-Rufai on assumption of office carried out restructuring and scrapping of ministries from 19 to 13 including the ministry of information.
Governor El-Rufai said the reduction in the number of ministries was to reduce cost of governance, resulting in the retirement of 20 permanent secretaries in the state.
A source who asked for anonymity told Nigerian Pilot that the governor scrapped the ministry to enable him accommodate his “Abuja boy.”
According to the source, “El-Rufai scrapped the ministry to fix his so-called ‘Abuja boy.’ He knew he could not appoint him commissioner because he was not an indigene. And the best way he could go about it was to scrap the ministry to enable him accommodate his boy. If not, why did the governor have to scrap the Ministry of Information among other ministries”” the source queried.
Nigerian Pilot recalls that El-Rufai, barely three days after announcement of the reduction of ministries from 19 to 13, appointmented his close associate, Muyiwa Adekeye, as special adviser, Media and Communication.
Adekeye is a former editor with TheNEWS group and PR consultant who was said to have worked closely with El-Rufai in Abuja even before he became FCT Minister and in El-Rufai’s campaign team.
