Rivers State governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has called on support groups working for his emergence as the next governor of the state to intensify their efforts to ensure that the party surpasses the score it recorded during the presidential and National Assembly elections on March 28.
Speaking during a meeting with leaders of more than 500 non-governmental organisations working for the PDP in Rivers State yesterday in Port Harcourt, Barrister Wike congratulated them but reminded them that more works needed to be done to finally liberate Rivers State from the shackles of the oppressors of the Niger Delta.
He charged the support groups to step up door-to-door campaigns to ensure that PDP wins in all polling units in the state, as it remains the preferred party of the people.
Wike added that the support groups should not be distracted by the falsehood being spread by the outgoing governor, who claimed that he is now in charge of the military and the police.
He affirmed: “Let me assure you that contrary to Amaechi’s claims, he is not in control of the army and the police. He cannot use the security agencies to intimidate our members and voters in the state,” he said.
Represented by Senator Thompson Sekibo, Barrister Wike said the votes of the presidential and National Assembly elections had proven Rivers people as trustworthy people who believed in their son.
Also speaking, former PDP governorship aspirtant, Nimi Walson-Jack urged all the support groups to work hard to ensure victory for Wike on Saturday and all House of Assembly candidates.
Responding on behalf of the groups, Francis Okedu said that members of the support groups were over 50,000 in all the wards of the state, assuring that they would work hard to ensure that PDP wins in the state.
He said over 90 percent of Rivers voters had seen beyond the APC falsehood and propaganda, hence were committed to a party that is pro-development and the Niger Delta.
He added that door to door campaigns had been in top gear since the beginning of the week to dispel all APC falsehood.
