Maria Sharapova overcame Johanna Konta 6-2 6-2 to progress to the second round of Wimbledon.
Konta had been in great form on the grass this summer, reaching the quarter-finals in both Eastbourne and Nottingham. However, Sharapova broke Konta’s serve in the fourth game of the first set and secured that stanza with another break courtesy of a booming forehand winner.

Konta broke the Russian’s serve at the start of the second but three breaks gave Sharapova a pretty comfortable win.
