A middle-aged woman, Toyin Akinrosotu has been arrested by police detectives in Idanre area of Ondo State, for allegedly causing the death of a baby who was reported to have fallen to his death from where it was straddled to its mother’s back during a scuffle.
Reports had it that the suspect, who lives at Awolata Street in Idanre, led some suspected thugs to the house of the mother of the deceased and beat her up as a result of which the baby fell to his death from its mother’s back.
The police First Information Report, FIR, which was made available to our correspondent, indicated that immediately the baby fell, it was taken to the hospital but was confirmed dead while the doctors were trying to save his life.
Soon after the news of the baby’s death broke, the mother who resides at Bajare Camp at Idanre reported the matter to the police and policemen visited the scene of the crime and consequently arrested the suspect.
Police sources confirmed that the suspect and some unidentified thugs invaded the house of the mother of the deceased baby and destroyed her property.
It was learnt that policemen who visited the scene of the crime took the photograph of the baby and deposited the corpse at the Alade Idanre General Hospital.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Wole Ogodo disclosed that the dead baby’s mother told the police in her statement that the suspect alongside some thugs attacked her and beat her and her baby up, which result to the death of her child.
The police PRO said the police is investigating the matter and the cause of the fight, and that the suspect would be charged to court as soon as investigation was concluded.
He warned people who have issues with one another to always cultivate the habit of reporting the case to the appropriate quarters for onward action rather than taking laws into their hands.
