Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Solomon Arase has promised adequate security across the country as Nigerian workers mark this year’s May Day celebrations today.
The Police Chief also expressed happiness with the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC and all affiliate labour unions, promising adequate security arrangement and a hitch-free celebration.
IGP Arase’s assurance and salutation was contained in a press statement issued yesterday by the Force PRO, Acting Commissioner of Police, Mr. Emmanuel Ojukwu, as he directed that heads of police formations nationwide should deploy large human and material resources for the celebration.
The IG advised the workers to be vigilant and report any security threats in their locality to the police and other law enforcement agencies promptly.
He described workers as “a dependable ally” in the efforts to provide security in the country and commended their role in ensuring the peaceful conduct of the just concluded general elections.
The statement reads: “As Nigerian Workers join their counterparts’ world-wide to mark this year International Worker’s Day celebrations, the Inspector-General of Police, Ag. IGP Solomon E. Arase rejoices with the nation’s labour movement on this auspicious occasion.
“The Police boss, while sharing in the joyous Workers Day celebration, expresses his profound gratitude to the nation’s work-force, on its role in the peaceful conduct, of the just concluded general elections. He described Nigerian workers as a dependable ally in the realization of his administration’s desire to provide a “safe Heaven” in the country.
