Alhaji Yahaya Bello was yesterday sworn in as the 6th executive governor of Kogi State, pledging to maintain zero-tolerance for corruption in the bid to bail the state out of poverty and squalo .
Chief Judge of the state, Justice Nasir Ajanah administered the oath of office on the new governor Bello at the inauguration ceremony held the main bowl of the newly constructed Lokoja stadium.
Bello who took the oath of office at 12.00pm, stated that the APC government will lead with the wishes and aspirations of the party leaders.
The venue of the swearing-in ceremony was filled to capacity, with different groups cheering and waving to welcome the new APC administration in the state.
In an emotion laden speech, Bello who quoted copiously from President Muhammadu Buhari’s inaugural speech, stated: “I belong to everybody and I belong to nobody,” pledging that his administration would be modelled after President Buahari.
“President Muhammadu Buhari epitomizes personal discipline, rugged determination and honesty. I intend to model my administration after Buhari,” he said.
He also paid glowing tributes to Late Prince Abubarka Audu whom he described as an icon whose foresight and doggedness paved the way for the “victory we are celebrating today.”
He lauded the efforts of the APC National Leader, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu whom he described as “the most singular successful politician of this democratic dispensation”.
Bello asserted that, “We exist for the sole purpose of serving the good people of Kogi state, not to serve avarice of a few because there is no greater evil than corruption. I declare and affirm that Alhaji Yahaya Bello’s administration will have zero tolerance for corruption”, he stressed.
He pledged to embark on people oriented projects, noting that his administration will pay one month salary very soon and put the strategy in place to implement the payment of arrears in batches.
He stated that positive and decisive action would be taken to rescue the state, adding that he and his team, and with God on his side will “execute our master plans to rebuild a new Kogi state.
“We must lead as leaders who will not disappoint the people. I will lead Kogi state by example and accountability. We shall allow rule of law and effective governance to prevail,” he assured.
