Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, yesterday said the country will not succumb to terrorism no matter the amount of bombings and killings by terrorists.
Six worshippers were on Sunday killed at the Redeem Church in Potiskum, Yobe state, by a suicide bomber.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state command, Mr. Toyin Gbadegesin, confirmed the development and said the suicide bomber was among the dead persons.
Reacting on the incident, Dogara expressed concern over the killings and bombings of churches and mosque by Boko Haram insurgents in the North-East.‬
In a press statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Turaki Hassan, Dogara said the motive of the terrorist was to instill fear in the minds of Nigerians by engaging in mass killings of hapless citizens.
He condemned the attack, describing it as “barbaric, inhuman and wicked.”
The Speaker said he was deeply worried over the “new dimension” taken by the terrorists as exemplified by the increasing spate of mass murder by the insurgents in recent days.
‪Dogara said Nigeria and Nigerians will never succumb to the new dimension of terrorism, urging the people not to despair.
He, however, praised the efforts of the military and other security agencies at the battle front, adding that their sacrifice will not go unrewarded.
Dogara further stressed that National Assembly will continue to give all the necessary supports and cooperation to President Muhammadu Buhari to equip the military with advance military hard ware needed to combat terrorism and other internal aggression.
