Young Stars football team, Ilashe has lifted the maiden edition of the Prince Dennis Sami sponsored 2015 Xmas football tournament for riverine communities in Lagos.
In the final match played in front of a large crowd and dignitaries at the Ilashe community stadium, the Young Stars defeated Prince Dennis Sami team 4 goals to 3 after a penalty shootout.
From the blast of the referee’s whistle, many attempts were made from both ends to take the lead during the first half but both teams couldn’t make it.
At the resumption of play in the second half, the teams upped their games which saw both of them scoring a goal apiece until the full time.
The game went into penalty shootout with the Young Stars scoring 4 goals as against Prince Dennis Sami’s team 3 goals.
During the third place match played earlier, Golden Star, Agajah defeated Godson United, Ilashe-Kobena 3-1 in an extra time after the hostilities ended 1-1 at full time.
In his remarks, Publisher, Nigerian Pilot/Nigerian Newsworld, Prince Dennis Sami, appreciated the participants and the organising committee who worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the tournament.
Sami said the tournament was created for entertainment and to bring the youths of the riverine communities in Lagos together.
According to him, “It is a way of contributing to uplifting society and humanity. The tournament was not planned but a follow up to a courtesy call by the youths of the communities, seeking for sponsorship of their football team. The winner of the championship goes home with N300, 000 and a gold cup,” he said.
