BARELY three weeks to the August 17 national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, youth, under the aegis of PDP National Youth Movement has alleged that the former chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has perfected plans to scuttle the convention. According to a statement signed by Ohazuruike Tochukwu on behalf of the group, it alleged that Modu Sheriff has approached Justice Abang of the Federal High Court to stop the national convention with a court injunction. Part of the statement said, “The sacked Chairman of PDP, Ali Modu Sheriff and his co-horts secretly filed a suit in the Federal High Court Abuja in Suit No: FHC/ABJ/ CS/464/2016 as plaintiff and procured lawyers for Peoples Democratic Party as defendant with the aim of the Plaintiffs and the Defendants colluding to halt the National Convention of the Party.” Tochukwu stressed that “The erstwhile Chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff in his new Suit that he is the Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, and is seeking an order of injunction to stop the Party from conducting its rescheduled August 17th, 2016 National Convention. “We have been reliably informed that he has been boasting that Justice Abang in few days time, will grant an order to stop the National Convention. We were informed that he said Justice Abang gave him firm promise to grant his prayer of stopping the Convention. “Therefore we are urging the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court to urgently intervene in this nefarious and satanic plot to use the Court to destroy Peoples Democratic Party by anti-democratic elements. “The Chief Judge should not allow the Court to be used as political arena where Politicians use to score political scores. “We, therefore, appeal to the Chief Judge to call Justice Abang to order and re-affirm the confidence of the Populace that the Judiciary is the last hope of common man and the temple of Justice,” he said.
